Understanding our learning framework
As the leading healthcare system in our community, OhioHealth has a long history of investing in the educational needs of our workforce. OhioHealth University (OHCU) is an exciting concept that has helped us become a learning organization. Through this concept, our approach to associate education and development strives to reach these learning ideals:
- Linking individual and organizational learning fully to our Mission, Vision and Values.
- Aligning the work of our education and development departments to support the strategic goals of OhioHealth.
- Optimizing our investment in training and development through the application of new technology to meet the ever-changing service requirements of the healthcare industry.
- Enabling individual associates to plan their own development based on job skill requirements, career aspirations, and unique worklife goals.
This learning framework illustrates how our educational courses and development initiatives are organized and categorized.

Cancellation policy
OHU reserves the right to cancel an instructor-led course and as much advanced notice as possible will be given to the registered participants. Participants may use the on-line registration process to cancel their attendance when necessary. However, associates must cancel at least three days prior to the class date to avoid having their department charged for unrecoverable costs such as meals and materials.

Location of classes
Classroom programs are held in meeting rooms at various OhioHealth locations or other facilities in order to provide convenient choices for participants. Individuals do not have to work at a particular site in order to attend a program at that location.
Computer-based courses can be completed from a variety of locations throughout the system including specific times in computer labs, free-standing kiosks, and designated unit or department computers. Courses may also be accessed from home computers or library computers. Supervisor permission is necessary for required education to be taken from non-work locations.

Facilitators
The OHCU “faculty” includes both internal facilitators (OhioHealth associates) and external facilitators (outside consultants). Facilitators are selected for their skill and subject knowledge. Course facilitation is considered an individual development opportunity and associates are encouraged to apply when in-house facilitators are requested.

Evaluation and measurements
Participant evaluations are administered for learning events as a means of gaining feedback for continuous program improvement. In addition, we look for evidence of learning effectiveness by analyzing changes in our business results, survey responses, and performance reviews.

Costs
OhioHealth considers education an investment in our future success. Participation in most learning programs is budgeted by each business entity and should not deter any leader or individual from completing needed programs. Some individual development programs, such as personal coaching, may be charged to the individual's specific cost center.
